Today there are 16 million slaves in business supply chains. To tackle this abuse, the Australian government adopted the Australian Modern Slavery Act in 2018. The bill requires every organization carrying out business or part of its business in Australia with an annual turnover of AUD $100 million+ to submit a Modern Slavery Statement to the government. The Modern Slavery Statement needs to provide information on the due diligence and remediation practices that the reporting entities have taken and continue to take to address modern slavery risks in their own operations and supply chains. The Australian Modern Slavery Act applies to the private and public sector.
