Today there are 16 million slaves in business supply chains. To combat slavery, several governments, including the UK and Australia, have passed new legislation to increase corporate responsibility and supply chain transparency. The UK Modern Slavery Act and the Australian Modern Slavery Act require certain entities to report on the measures they have taken to prevent and mitigate modern slavery risks in their own operations and supply chains. Although similar, the UK Modern Slavery Act and the Australian Modern Slavery Act show considerable differences. To ensure clarity, the UK and the Australian government have each published additional guidance providing detailed information on the content and format required to comply with the respective reporting requirements.
