There are 17 million victims of modern slavery being exploited in global supply chains today. They make the goods and provide the services consumed by people around the world. To help end this abuse, companies need to act. Not only is it the right thing to do, but it can help protect businesses from commercial risks and facilitate compliance with an ever increasing number of new laws.

The UK’s Modern Slavery Act, for example, requires approximately 17,000 companies to report on the steps they have taken to tackle slavery in their supply chains. Yet a recent survey found that 74% of companies failed to adequately explain the steps they are taking to train their staff on slavery. Without adequate training, many employees will struggle to spot the warning signs and to respond appropriately.

To substantially increase the number of employees receiving slavery training, human rights specialists RightsDD are launching a free modern slavery course. The course, downloadable here, can be used by companies on their own Learning Management System or as a standalone training module. It draws upon RightsDD’s experience working with companies around the world to identify and address human rights risks in their supply chains.

Oliver Cushing, CEO of RightsDD, said, “At RightsDD we know that employees want to do their bit to help fight slavery in their company’s supply chain but often don’t get the training they need to do so. We have therefore decided to make our new modern slavery training course available for free. The course has been developed by our experts and draws on our considerable experience supporting companies to identify and address human rights risks in their supply chains. I really hope that companies take advantage of the course to train their people.”
